Dear Friends,

We are writing to request your organisation to join an International Day of Action on Thursday 9 August concerning two prominent trade union prisoners in Iran: Mansour Osanloo and Mahmoud Salehi. We know that the summer period is not a very good one to launch international solidarity action, particularly in the northern hemisphere. We believe, however, that the particular circumstances in these two cases call for urgent and determined action if our two detained colleagues are to be released in the foreseeable future.

Many of you will have seen or at heard of Mansour Osanloo’s high-profile visit to the ITF and ITUC statutory meetings in London and Brussels last June. The ITUC General Council, in particular, after giving Mansour a standing ovation, decided to offer him full solidarity in case he ran into trouble after returning to Iran. This is, unfortunately, exactly what happened: it is now two weeks since Mansour Osanloo was abducted, while traveling on a Tehran bus on 10 July. He is now back in the notorious Evin Prison and has reportedly been charged with “conspiring against national security”; his file is apparently being handled by Iran’s intelligence services. The ITUC and the ITF have already written a joint protest letter on 11 July to the Iranian government and have submitted additional information to the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association. Furthermore, the ITF has launched its online petition “Free Mansour Osanloo”. It is generating a large response. If you have not signed that petition yet, you may want to spare a moment and do so by visiting the following URL:

In the meantime, many affiliates have sent protest letters. Several unions have organised protest actions at the Iranian embassy/consulate already. Transport workers’ Unions in the Arab countries have expressed their solidarity towards Mansour Osanloo and the union collectively.

M. Salehi, Coordinating Committee to Form Workers’ Organisations

The health condition of Mahmoud Salehi is quickly deteriorating. As you probably know, he is a founding member of the Saqez Bakery Workers’ Association and of the above-mentioned Coordinating Committee. His activities have attracted constant persecution from the authorities and, despite his poor health, he is currently imprisoned in Sanandaj in the Kurdistan Province, far away from Saqez and his family. Many affiliates have already responded to calls for protest action issued by the ITUC on 9 July. We are now asking you to step up this pressure, as there is very firm evidence that Salehi’s life is in danger owing to inadequate medical care in prison.

Requested action on 9 August

We are hoping that both Osanloo and Salehi will be released before our target date and are maintaining constant pressure on Iran authorities to that effect. If, however, either one or both of them are still detained on Thursday 9 August, we are calling on all ITUC and ITF affiliates and Global Union Federations to consider our International Day of Action in solidarity with Iranian workers on that day. Thursday 9 August will mark one year exactly since Mansour Osanloo was released from prison after an earlier period of imprisonment. That release was undoubtedly the result of continuous protests and pressure from the international trade union movement. You may also recall the successful Action Day on 15 February 2006, in response to the mass arrests that the Iranian authorities made the previous month when the Tehran Bus Workers’ Union announced a one-day strike to demand Osanloo’s release.

On this anniversary day, we are calling upon our affiliates to visit the Iranian diplomatic mission in your country with protests letters and/or hard copies of the petitions collected by the ITF.  If there is no Iranian embassy in your country, you may consider visiting your Ministry/Office of Foreign Affairs to raise your concern; holding a press conference; organizing a workplace meeting, or taking any other action which you consider appropriate.

A father who ordered his daughter brutally slain for falling in love with the wrong man in a so-called “honor killing” was found guilty of murder on Monday.

Banaz Mahmod, 20, was strangled with a boot lace, stuffed into a suitcase and buried in a back garden.

Her death is the latest in an increasing trend of such killings in Britain, home to some 1.8 million Muslims. More than 100 homicides are under investigation as potential “honor killings.”

Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, planned the killing during a family meeting, prosecutors told the court. Two others have pleaded guilty in the case. Two more suspects have fled the country. Sentencing is expected later this month.

The men accused the young woman of shaming her family by ending an abusive arranged marriage, becoming too Westernized and falling in love with a man who didn’t come from their Iraqi village. The Kurdish family came to Britain in 1998 when Banaz Mahmod was 11.

“She was my present, my future, my hope,” said Rahmat Suleimani, 29, Banaz Mahmod’s boyfriend.

During the three-month trial, prosecutors said Mahmod’s father beat his daughter for using hairspray and adopting other Western ways. Her uncle once told her she would have been “turned to ashes” if she were his daughter and had shamed the family by becoming involved with the Iranian Kurd, her sister 22-year-old Bekhal Mahmod testified.

Banaz Mahmod ran away from home when she was a teenager but returned when her father sent her an audio tape in which he warned he would kill her sisters, her mother and himself if she did not come home, her sister said.

She was later hospitalized after her brother attacked her, the sister told the court. The brother said he had been paid by their father to finish her off but in the end was unable to do it, said the sister, who testified in a full black burqa. She said she still feared for her own life.

Elienation as in Elle-nation

the alienation of our labour is a spatial temporal and semantic restriction – and reduction of man into woman – as woman is always and already just a commodity – only men can have property. but even outside of this semantic reality within the confines of the spatial entity of E or Aurope, is the alien -or even within that space we can find the ‘resident’ or ‘ilegal’ alien – the black man – black matter and energy as female – to be fucked (or should i say ‘loved’) by a ‘enlightened’ europe. its high time to alienate european capital and enterprise and this is wot we expect from the no borders camp – not simply to repeat the process of north/south european consolidation that took place in the so-called world wars.

Borders are a very clear expression of psychopathic geometry.

Any debate about arming the police for example in countries such as England or the Solomon Islands, is redundant at the borders where in the first case we can see police armed at Heathrow airport (and all airports perfectly show the hyperspace of the border of the states and nations which engender industrial capitalism), and in the second case RAMSI intervention force disarming in the rest of the country but arming the police at the Bouganville border.

I mention these two as Europe is not just a spatial cliche. it is a hyper/psychogeographical/space that is defined by the limits of the ‘European world’ , therefore it is defined by, for example, the fact that the former Neu-Mecklenburg and Neupommem (now known as New Britain and New Ireland) are part of Papua New Guinea – the disputed territory of Bouganville lying between these islands and the Solomons.

A border has dimensions in space, time and meaning.

Spacially we can see borders as a 2 dimensional line which tries to therefore constrain multidimensional space. Its retardation is evident in the 3rd dimensional deficit whereby nations imagine their borders extend infinitely into outer space and infinitely down into the earth.
The points in space are checkpoints that line the border and the surface is that of the country.

In time we can see the point of independence or occupation as the begining of a border and a possible end point in revolution. The temporal line is thus defined. The temporal dimensions of origin and magnitude are therefore extensions into time at those points and are defined by the aristocratic time period which predates the modern capitalist state. In the case of England that is Briton. The temporal border of Britain thus demarkates England between Briton and Britannia, the conquered and the conquerer. which brings us to the dimensions of meaning.

The border is a line – it is in negative dimensions of meaning. It is only through the surface of country or volume of nation that it aquires meaning. If we look at the 0th (nunth) dimensional point of the checkpoint this is somewhat clearer.

The checkpoint constitutes the event of capture. of inquisition. it form a line and surface with the history of a conflict typified by imperialist warfare. the event that happens there is identification and meaning is situated by the flag – the letter of the nation. In the case of England this is the red cross.

It is also the letter ‘E’. The event that constitutes the temporal origin is the Anglo-Saxon invasion – ie England is in fact Angland. There is no mistake in the corelation of the cross and the semantic relationship with Angles. The letter E is sometimes morphologically identical to the letter A. In this way the EU is the same as the AU. The letter (0 dimensions), the name (1 dimension), the constitution (2 dimensions) of a nation are thus the different sides of the entity defined by borders.

The checkpoint will demand a similar measurement of human beings – in spacial, temporal and semantic dimensions. Identity is what is checked, through papers. This identity has race and class as its dimensions.

It is alienation that the psychopathic process builds on. Alienation is the quantitive and qualitive restriction of a person from their labour, from their home and from the world around them.

The camp will take place from the 11th to the 20th of August 2007 in

the main region of transit and labor migration in Ukraine:

Transcarpathia.
Some of the aims of this camp are:

1) To create a ground for communication between activists from Eastern

and Western Europe and from everywhere else: meeting, establishing

contacts, sharing skills, knowledge and experience, etc. (workshops,

discussions, practical trainings, concerts and much more).

2) To attract the attention of the people in Ukraine (but also in

Russia and in the world) to the racist policy on migration; to address

the questions of contemporary forms of racism and xenophobia.

3) To create contact with local people in the region of

Transcarpathia: anti-racist education, open public events, film

screenings, exhibitions, concerts and discussions, with an aim to

improve local people's attitude towards migrants, refugees and asylum

seekers.

4) To exchange information between us: how the authorities in

different countries criminalize migration, what are the situations

with deportation prisons, and to share the experiences of resistance

in different countries. One of the practical results of the camp is

going to be the publication of a brochure with the information from

different countries on all these issues to reinforce our struggle

(call-out with approximate questions is coming!).

5) To get more people from different anti-authoritarian collectives

and movements in Ukraine, Russia and other 'post-soviet' countries

involved with the migration-related issues; mobilize people for

struggle against racism, criminalization of migration and deportation

camps system.


Another event that is going to take place in the camp is an

International Food Not Bombs gathering. There is an explosion of Food

Not Bombs activities in Eastern Europe. In Russia alone there are

about 50 groups that are regularly doing actions. We already started

to form a program of workshops, discussions, practical trainings etc.

But we prefer the program of the camp to be formed by the people who

will come there. So if you've got something to share or contribute ­

please let us know now! It can be any topic you are interested in, not

only the main topic of the camp.


Please take into account that Ukraine has cancelled the visa regime

for the citizens of the European Union, the USA and some other

countries, so if you have a passport of some Western country you

probably do not need any visa to join us.

OPEN LETTER TO DOCTOR SIMPSON

Dear Dr Simpson,

we are writing to express concern about the involvement of David Coleman in your forthcoming conference Segregation or integration – what’s going on?scheduled for this May.

No doubt you are already aware of some of the controversy surrounding Coleman. However we would like to draw your attention on how Coleman’s problematic views impact upon his proposed lecture ‘Bricks without straw? Estimating the vital rates and future size of ethnic populations‘. In the published abstract we read “Although levels of inter-ethnic union vary greatly between groups at present, it is suggested that in the long run the growth of populations of increasingly complex mixed origin will make the definition and elaboration of ethnic groups as currently understood increasingly meaningless.” We would draw your attention to the article ‘“Replacement Migration” or why everyone’s going to have to live in Korea’ The Galton Institute Newsletter, No. 40 March 2001 (http://www.galtoninstitute.org.uk/Newsletters/GINL0103.pdf), where we read “Europeans think they know who they are and unlike (say) Australians, do not want to become something different.” Coleman goes on to promote encouraging women in Europe to have more children to avoid the alleged “harmful consequences” of more immigration.

In light of Coleman’s involvement with the Galton Institute – as the Eugenics Society likes to style itself nowadays – and Migration Watch, you will understand the concern felt by ourselves and others. It is not so long ago that Karl Pearson and Margaret Moul wrote in their their article “The problem of alien immigration into Great Britain, illustrated by an examination of Russian and Polish Jewish children”, (Annals of Eugenics (now, Annals of Human Genetics 1,1-128, 1925):

“We hold therefore that the problem of the admission of an alien Jewish population into Great Britain turns essentially on the answer that may be given to the question: Is their average intelligence so markedly superior to that of the native Gentile, that it compensates for their physique and habits certainly not being above (probably a good deal below) the average of those characters here?”

Although the issue of “population ageing” has replaced that of “intelligence” in the intervening years, the practice of using contemporary issues to mobilise racist opinion remains unaltered. Of course it is important for this practice that this racism is given the veneer of scientific respectability. Coleman’s proposed lecture at your event threatens to do precisely this.

Pearson and Moul also wrote of Jews that “for men with no special ability-above all for such men as religion, social habits, or language keep as a caste apart, there should be no place. They will not be absorbed by, and at the same time strengthen the existing population; they will develop into a parasitic race, a position neither tending to the welfare of their host, nor wholesome for themselves”. Such language speaks for itself. .

Eugenics – whether in its classical formulation presented by Galton, Pearson and Moul or in the contemporary and somewhat disguised formulations offered by Coleman and his colleagues in the Galton Institute and Migration Watch – is a significant movement to promote and sanitise racist views.

It is nearly four years since David Aaronovitch challenged Coleman over the Galton Institute’s links with avowedly racist groups as the Klu Klux Klan (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,,1012515,00.html). As far as I am aware, Coleman has not responded, prefering to gloss over these links and choosing to make patronising remarks about those that criticise him – apparently one of the privileges enjoyed by an Oxford professor.

I urge you to reconsider going ahead with the conference as planned.

Friday the 9th of February, 6.35 pm
Majik Ritual begins outside the Head quarters of Exxon Mobile, multinational oil, gas and chemical corporation, on the corner of Aldwich and Kingsway in central London, an unremarkable an unmarked glass fronted building with a large area of pavement outside.

6.35pm
Security guards inside the glass entrance engage in conversation, what looks like gesticulation is in fact magical incantation invoking power and sustaining protection for the continuation of Exxon’s activities. Sex majik ritualist stands directly in front of the entrance of the building.

6.42pm
Unknown man exits the building, glances at the sex majik ritualist, the glance has sexual undertones and signals ritual’s commencement.

6.43pm
The unknown man moves towards the sex majik ritualist who walks a trajectory the width of the building’s façade, he walks beside her keeping a even distance, the sex majik ritualist and the unknown man move in relation to each other, criss-crossing in front of the glass revolving doors gently re-crossing paths, tenderly glancing and re-glancing in a remote, back-and-forth-back-and-forth, almost dance. With their steps they trace an invisible drawing, they make a total of ten stops and thirteen lines.

An unknown woman passing by drops her glove at the feet of the sex majik ritualist as a signal for the ritual to end. It duly evaporates with the unknown man making off to the North, the unknown woman to the south and the sex majik ritualist to the east.

Wednesday February 15th

The sex majik ritualist returns to the site of Exxon Sexxon ritual no.1 to mark out in chalk the lines and stops traced by their steps. The chalk markings reveal what the body’s trajectories had configured; The Seriphiroth tree, the plan of all upper and lower things. The central pillar representing the spine through which the devine dew flows, the upper triad of the configuration working outside time and beyond understanding.

A known Woman walks into the ExxonMobil building and asks at the front desk “Is this the ExxonMobil Building?” to which she receives the reply “No it’s a completely different organisation, it’s something else now”.
